Jessica Aguilar was viewed as one of the most useful strawweights on earth for years, beating opponents left and right in the Bellator and WSOF cages before finally connecting the UFC in 2015.
Yet, “Jag” hasn’t even been able to put a winning series together on the main stage possible.
The American Top Team product dropped a decision to Claudia Gadelha within her Octagon introduction in Rio de Janeiro. Nearly a year later, Aguilar lost to Courtney Casey in Dallas. Aguilar finally found a triumph in 2018, beating Jodie Esquibel in Boise, but returned into the losing column months later, tapping to Weili Zhang in Beijing.
Aguilar has got the possibility to bounce back on Saturday, shooting on Marina Rodriguez in UFC Philadelphia, but the literary prospect miracles when her competitor really was that good — even whether it was an issue of competition.
“Truly, I simply got in the UFC and every fighter there is tough, a degree above normal. Maybe she was doing great because she didn’t even get in the UFC earlier in the day. It was different for me because I got fought and in a ranked competitor. I don’t even know… It is likely to soon be a very good fight. She’s an skilled fighter and also we ’ll wear a series. ”
Rodriguez entered the UFC after making fast job of Rizin veteran Maria Oliveira at the version of this Contender Series last August, and fought to a majority draw Randa Markos in UFC Sao Paulo within her introduction.
“This struggle with Randa was a draw,”” Rodriguez said. “But it confirmed to me that all the hard labour we’ve finished ahead of the UFC, going 10-0, was well-executed and got us prepared to fight the No. 13 ranked fighter in the UFC, with a complete opposite fighting style, and triumph 2 rounds against her. We’re on the perfect path. ”
Rodriguez was originally booked to match Alexa Grasso in February and then March, but Grasso couldn’t even make to fight night. Together with Aguilar stepping in around 1-1 days’ note, the Brazilian gift doesn’t even see many gaps between her and Grasso.
“They phoned me personally to express that Grasso was injured and offered Jessica Aguilar right away,”” Rodriguez said. “I was stressed for a moment, but then we watched her struggles to see what we could have to adapt, but we haven’t really changed anything concerning strategy. We were performing a similar gameplan to get Grasso. Every thing will be alright. ”
Rodriguez doesn’t even think her UFC Philadelphia bout will last three rounds, and expects to add another knockout success to her album.
“I wasn’t able to show everything I will do when I fought Randa, but now it’s my time to impress everybody. I know that’therefore potential, and I will try this on Saturday. ”
“(Grappling) is definitely an alternative, but the best way to success is on the feet, maybe the clinch,” she lasted. “I have many alternatives to finish this fight on the feet. When we go to the bottom, my jiu-jitsu has evolved a lot and (a entry is) potential. I have lots cards up my sleeve which may surprise her on a lawn. ”
