After the defeat rivals Saint-Raphaël Var hand-ball the day before, Füchse Berlin were already guaranteed of the top spot in Men’s EHF Cup Group A before their final game on Sunday, against Balatonfüredi KSE.
Still, the defending winners took the game seriously and grabbed a 36:23 victory.
Berlin finish top of Group A, two points ahead of Saint-Raphaël
Saint Raphaël’s defeat in La Rioja on Saturday supposed that Berlin were finishing first of Group A, whatever result of their match on Sunday.
However, the titleholders started the match against Balatonfüred firing on all cylinders. They quickly took a two-goal advantage, and pitched the difference after 14 minutes. However, the people clawed their way back in the game as well as levelled the score five minutes later.
Füchse recovered a two-goal lead at halftime (16:14) and strengthened their citizenship in the 2nd half, enabling them to score easy goals on fast breaks.
Winger Mattias Zachrisson proved to be the most effective scorer netting 10 times and also helping his team break on the score board.
Thanks to a 6-0 series, Berlin took a 10-goal advantage a couple minutes before the final buzzer, and ultimately acquired by 1 3 goals.
