Leclerc looked well on course for a grand grand prix win as he had been managing his gap over Hamilton in the closing stages of the race, only for his to develop an MGUH problem.

The Monegasque slowed radically along with Hamilton made quick work of what was an initial nine-second gap.

He could be observed increasing his hand as he breezed past the sickly on lap 48, before you go on to win the race.

“Ultimately you want to maneuver some one because you’r e quicker than it’s been a struggle,” Hamilton said afterwards.

“I moved past Charles around the rear straight and that I raised my hand because there wasn’t anything that I can doI didn’t even have any issues.

“It seems weird and frankly you can’t even believe your luck within that scenario but so what can you do? You can’t even deny yourself, you merely need to keep doing what you do.

“I’ve ever been in positions such as this previously, where you’ve ever been in the guide and the car has stopped, therefore that I know how it feels. ”

Hamilton said Leclerc, who became F1’s second-youngest ever pole-sitter on Saturday,

“It’s always great to live with the glass half-full,” Hamilton continued. “Today he got some wonderful things [with third party place], although he had that problem, and he had been so much faster than his teammate.

“there are a number of positives for him to choose out of that, and we have plenty of work to complete to maintain up. ”

Hamilton described his race as “up-and-down ”, saying that he “got a terrible start once more ” he looked to be outside of contention to finish in the upper two after having a poor 2nd stint.

“Collectively we’ve ever done a strong job with all the weekend however outperformed us out of the get-go and we’ve got to continue to work, [to find out] where we’ve gone wrong that this weekend.” ”
