Vettel overtook teammate Charles Leclerc off the line, but couldn’t stay ahead of this Monegasque or keep pace with him later, having to battle for instant as an alternative.

A spin when fighting Hamilton led to a front wing failure and ultimately resulted in Vettel finishing only fifth, which meant he’s failed to score a podium at both of the first two races during this growing summer season to the first time since 2010.

“I realised after more or less half a lap after the beginning that it will be very difficult,” Vettel reported.

“The car was excessively difficult to drive for me.

“” I presume Charles struggled less, he had no issue to follow along and pass meso yeah, quite catchy.

“The second stint I think it could settle down a bit with the medium tyres, but entire, maybe not the pace that we should’ve had now, in my opinion. ”

Vettel had slipped to third place after his first pit stop but passed on Hamilton, only to come under pressure again briefly after his second tyre change.

He fought off a tt 4 lunge from the Brit on lap 37, but had been overtaken in the same place a lap later, and spun in Hamilton’s wake exiting the corner.

“Obviously it had been very close, ” I strove to reunite to the inside just like the lap before,” Vettel remembered.

“” I presume Turn 4 has been one of the corners. Was my mistakeI lost the rear and I spun.

“[The end ] probably didn’t help, it had been turning to tail wind in that corner the whole race.

“I don’t knowI lost the automobile very suddenly, and when I summoned it was clearly too late. ”

The front wing on Vettel’s SF90 then collapsed and moved under the vehicle on the rear right back.

“I presume during the spin I ruined the stocking so much that I had quite a lot vibrations, which I then I presume led on to the failure of this front ,” Vettel clarified.

“I think it was his race take now,” Vettel said of Leclerc. “Unhappy because of him and to the team, unsatisfactory day in general. ”
