CHICAGO — John Paxson remains convinced the Chicago Bulls are about the right path despite one of the worst records in franchise record and that they have the coach they want in Jim Boylen.

Chicago basketball , Paxson said he expects the team to compete next season. He also said it’s”very possible” Boylen gets a contract extension.

The Bulls went from 27 successes to ending with a mark at the next year of their rebuild. That gave them the fifth-worst win percent (.268) in franchise history — the lowest since the 1998-99 team moved 13-37 (.260) following a breakup of the dynasty teams at the franchise’s heyday.

The 2-2 successes were the fewest for Chicago as the team finished 21-61. With a mark at the United Center, Chicago tied ny for the worst home record of the league.

“We want to maintain the search again. That’s going to take us being healthy. This is the first thing.”

They Are SAFE

Paxson said chairman Jerry Reinsdorf have not given him general director Gar Forman that a win-now-or-else mandate, even though they understand”the reality of this company .” For the time being, they truly are safe therefore is Boylen. He got off to a solid beginning and finished with a 17-41 listing after getting promoted from assistant coach when the Bulls fired Fred Hoiberg.

In his very first week, Boylen insisted the conditioning and toughness of the team needed to improve. The Bulls suffered a franchise-record 56-point loss to Boston in that he used substitutions and kept out the starters for roughly the final 20 minutes. Things boiled over the subsequent day, when he predicted for training after a few players and back to back matches responded by increasing the prospect of a boycott.

As an alternative, there was a session with coaches and management and a staff meeting.

Paxson said he watched enough to believe Boylen could be the right coach for this team.

“What I have seen is his ability to show these guys that he genuinely cares about them,” Paxson said. “That his goal is to have them as individuals. I am the first to admit that week was similar to dynamite blowing up. It turned out to be a week that is rocky. What I have seen since then is a guy that adopts this challenge. He disturbs individuals he is training. He really does view himself as a teacher, some guy that wants to relate to the players, and at times you have to be tough and hard.”

STAR POWER

Paxson was adament Chicago can land celebrities though he confessed the perception that the Bulls are not a well-run company, saying many others are not and a few of the criticisms are accurate.

“The very first part of that’s via the draft,” he said. … I really do believe that if we construct winning again that this city is a draw, this company is still a draw. But that is down the road.”

LOTTERY LUCK

Though Paxson isn’t banking lottery luck, a few could be used by the Bulls. Chicago has a 12.5percent percent chance to land the No. 1 pick and, presumably, Duke’s Zion Williamson from the drawing may possibly 14 at Chicago. The Bulls’ chances of picking at the top four will be 4-8 %.

ON POINT

Whether Kris Dunn improves after having a disappointing season and also the Bulls look out for assistance, Paxson made it clear the Bulls want better play at point guard next season. Dunn went from averaging 13.4 points into 11.3 in 46 games. Of course if the Bulls bring about contest, he insisted that is just fine with him.

“I am a dog, I don’t run from nothing,” Dunn said.

Paxson attributed this season to a very long set of injuries to luck instead of issues.

“We’ve great confidence in our strength and conditioning team,” he said. “the point that I strove to impress up on the players (Wednesday) night is that we have everything here for them to operate and enhance this summer.”
