Things were looking bad for Matt Perez, until they weren’t.

On Saturday night at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., Perez has his sophomore outing for Bellator MMA, taking on the hometown prospect Justin Tenedora in a flyweight contest. At first it looked like the American Kickboxing Academy product would get an early win, securing a takedown on Matt Perez and transitioning to a back-mount. Even after Perez shook off the backpack, Tenedora was quick to transition to a triangle, and still looked to be in a winning position, but looks can be deceiving as Tenedora didn’t lock in the triangle quick enough. Instead, Perez connected with some big punches, knocking out Tenedora and securing an impressive comeback victory.
