The two flyweights, who fought in the opening bout of the ESPN preliminary card of UFC 240 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, earned $50,000 Fight of the Night bonuses for an action-packed bout that had Figueiredo leaving with the unanimous decision win.
With the result, Figueiredo improved his MMA record to 16–1 and was able to successfully bounce back from his first professional loss to Jussier Formiga, while Pantoja’s three-fight win streak came to a end.
Additionally, two other fighters earned $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses.
Welterweight Geoff Neal earned a bonus after his wild brawl with Niko Price that had him picking up a second-round technical knockout victory. Neal is now 12-2 as a professional and 4-0 since joining the UFC in 2018.
Featherweight Hakeem Dawodu got his bonus with an impressive comeback win against Yoshinori Hori. Dawodu forced the referee to stop the fight after landing a repeated strikes on Hori and then dropping him with head kick. The 28-year-old fighter is 10–1–1 in his MMA career and he’s riding a three-fight win streak.
