MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay — Mike Perry had nose surgery hours after losing a split decision to Vicente Luque in the co-main event of UFC Uruguay on Saturday night and is doing fine, MMA Fighting has learned.
Luque landed a vicious knee that fractured Perry’s nose in the final moments of the bout, and the photos of his damaged nose immediately went viral online.
While Perry was having surgery at the hospital in Montevideo, his wife Danielle Nickerson posted on social media he was “doing ok” despite the gruesome injury.
Both Perry and Luque pocketed extra $50,000 for the “Fight of the Night” honours following their exciting welterweight contest at Antel Arena in Montevideo.
Luque (17-6-1) is now riding a six-fight winning streak in the welterweight with the split decision nod. His previous five victories came by either knockout or submission. The Brazilian is now campaigning for a late-2019 return against Stephen Thompson.
Perry (13-4), on the other hand, returns to the losing column four months after getting his hands raised in a “Fight of the Night” victory against Alex Oliveira in Florida.
