Girtz on Friday announced an injury that’s forced him to withdraw from Bellator Dublin, posting a photo of himself from a hospital bed. A Bellator official subsequently confirmed his withdrawal to MMAFighting.
“I’m starting a new journey to recover from an injury sustained a couple days ago, I was hoping for good news but not this time,” Girtz wrote on his official Instagram page.
Bellator Dublin takes place Sept. 27 at 3Arena in Dublin. Girtz’s scheduled opponent, Paul Redmond, will not receive a new opponent given the short-notice withdrawal. A middleweight preliminary-card bout between Norbert Novenyi and Will Fleury will move to the Bellator Dublin card.
Girtz most recently fought in the Bellator cage in March, outpointing vet Saad Awad to move to 2-4 in his past six outings.
