Trevor Smith has a new date and opponent for his next UFC bout.

“Hot Sauce” was originally scheduled to take on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC Sao Paulo on Nov. 16, but the Brazilian veteran was pulled from the card with a back injury. The UFC has then decided to move Smith from that card to UFC on ESPN 7 in Washington, matching him up against Alonzo Menifield on Dec. 7.

Smith vs. Menifield was first reported by The Washington Post. Sources confirmed Nogueira’s back injury to MMA Fighting following a report from Combate.

Menifield (9-0) is on a roll inside the Octagon. The 31-year-old light heavyweight signed with the UFC after an impressive eight-second knockout of Dashawn Boatwright at last year’s Contender Series, stopping Vinicius Moreira and Paul Craig in the first round in 2019.

Smith (15-9), on the other hand, will attempt to get back on track after losing decisions to Elias Theodorou and Zak Cummings in 2018, dropping his overall UFC record to 5-6.

UFC Washington takes place at the Capital One Arena and airs live on ESPN. The card will feature former heavyweight title contender Alistair Overeem taking on Walt Harris in the main event.
