The San Francisco 49ers announced Thursday they had placed wide receiver Jalen Hurd and cornerback Jason Verrett on injured reserve and signed cornerback Dontae Johnson to a one-year deal.

Hurd, a rookie, has been dealing with a back injury since training camp. In a preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, the third-round pick out of Tennessee caught three passes for 31 yards and two touchdowns.

Last month, 49ers coach Kyle Shanhan had said he was hoping Hurd would be back after last week’s bye.

The 49ers also announced that they had re-signed offensive lineman Will Holden to the team’s practice squad.
